Six Sigma Black
Belt is technically-oriented personnel selected to become on-site
implementers of Six Sigma projects. Six Sigma Black Belt is trained
in the statistical methodology to reduce variation of products and
services to the Six Sigma level. Six Sigma Black Belt is also
trained to facilitate, lead and manage Six Sigma teams to sustain
significant bottom-line results.
In general, the
Six Sigma Black Belt certification includes two parts. First is the
learning of Six Sigma skills and tools. Second is the application of
these six sigma tools in real work
place.
The Certified
Six Sigma Black Belt is a professional who can explain Six Sigma
philosophies and principles, including supporting systems and tools.
The Six Sigma Black Belt should demonstrate team leadership,
understand team dynamics, and assign team member roles and
responsibilities. They have a thorough understanding of and can use
all aspects of the DMAIC model in accordance with Six Sigma
principles. They have basic knowledge of lean enterprise concepts,
are able to identify non-value-added elements and activities, and
are able to use specific tools.
Minimum
Expectations for a Certified Six Sigma Black
Belt:

Will be able to explain Six Sigma
philosophies and principles, including supporting systems and tools,
(quality, process/continuous improvement, etc.) and will be able to
apply them in various business processes throughout the
organization.

Will be able to demonstrate and be a driver
for various leadership roles and responsibilities, organizational
dynamics, customer expectations and
satisfaction.

Will have a fundamental understanding of the
components and techniques used in project management, including
planning, deploying, monitoring, etc.
·
Will be able to demonstrate team leadership,
understand team dynamics, assign team member roles and
responsibilities, and be a driver of change agent methodologies and
various communication tools such as negotiation, motivation,
conflict resolution, etc.

Will have a thorough understanding of and
will be able to use all aspects of the Define, Measure, Analyze,
Improve, and Control (DMAIC) model in accordance with Six Sigma
principles (and as detailed in the subtext of the body of
knowledge).

Will have basic knowledge of lean enterprise
concepts, will be able to identify non-value-added elements and
activities, and will be able to use specific
tools.
·
Will be able to use and analyze quality
function deployment (QFD) techniques, failure mode and effects
analysis (FMEA), and basic robust design processes, including noise
strategies, tolerance design, and process capability tools.

Will have a basic understanding of design for
X (DFX) and special design tools.
A managerial
level or technical specialist assigned responsibility to implement
Six Sigma throughout the business unit. Six Sigma Black Belt has an
in-depth understanding of Six Sigma philosophy, theory, strategy,
tactics, and quality management tools. Six Sigma Black Belt is
usually working at Six Sigma on a full time basis.
A Six Sigma
Black belt is a member of the organization who is a 100% Six Sigma
Resource, responsible for conducting Six Sigma Projects, and
delivering on the big Y's.
The Six Sigma
Black Belt program will expose participants to the proven systematic
approach to improve customer satisfaction, increase profit margins,
minimize cycle times and reduce costs. The program is designed based
on the DMAIC framework which includes soft skills. The program is
made up of 4 modules of five days each whereby Module 1 will consist
of classroom lectures to be followed by three modules of knowledge
application at the participants' workplace.
